Painting at Cascadia Art Museum
This past June I was thrilled to be the Featured Local Artist at Cascadia Art Museum!
I had paintings on display and available for purchase all month in the Museum Store. I also happen to be the Museum Store Manager at Cascadia, so it was such a fun opportunity to talk to folks about my artwork day to day.
My paintings and prints, on display in the Museum Store’s designated Local Artist section!
Close up of The Biker Girl, right above some of my miscellaneous unframed prints, drawings, and paintings.
I was invited to do a live painting demonstration during the monthly third-Thursday Art Walk, an evening where local businesses throughout Edmonds will host local artists and other creative activities.
I set up a mini version of my home studio in the Museum Store and got to work!
During my live demonstration, I started a new painting based on this incredible historic image from Lake Chelan in 1903.
Chelan, Washington, is a lake-town about 200 miles west of Seattle.
The database that I sourced the image from labeled the image “Campers at Lake Chelan, 1903”. Though I don’t know their identity, these two “glampers” really caught my eye and I absolutely love the composition of the photograph.

This piece is part of my series where I use a textured, patterned fabric as my canvas surface.
I prepped my canvas ahead of the event - I chose this gorgeous blue and white floral fabric that had been sitting in my stash for ages. It’s embroidered texture is very pronounced and really fun to work with - definitley my favorite I’ve used in a painting so far!
I’ll be leaving the background fabric exposed, peeking through as the “tent’s fabric” in the final painting.
I had so much fun talking with visitors and friends from the Cascadia community about my process!
I made a lot of progress on this painting during the event! Here’s what it looked like when I wrapped up for the evening.
Thanks again to everyone who came out to support and to Cascadia Art Museum for offering me this incredible opportunity! Stay posted for when I finish up the painting :)
